The American Family Association of Colorado is a non-profit, Christian organization comprised of broad-based citizens mobilized to combat and eliminate the destructive influence of pornography, obscenity and indecency. The mission of AFA is to promote the Biblical ethic of decency and Judeo-Christian values in the American society.
The purpose of the AFA of CO is to protect and promote faith, family and freedom by raising a standard of righteousness in our land and by encouraging Christians to be "salt" and "light."
The vision of the AFA of CO is to educate the public to be discerning in their viewing and listening skills with the understanding that men, women, and children are impacted, both positively and negatively, by the choices that they make relative to television, movies, videos, radio, cassette tapes, CDs, magazines, and advertisements.
Through our educational pursuits, individuals will be better prepared to guard themselves from the insidious and powerful entertainment industry which draws people into buying and living patterns that can become compulsive/addictive disorders.
The AFA of CO will also meet with and work with prosecutors and other law enforcement and governmental officials encouraging them to investigate and to bring charges against the purveyors of hard-core, illegal pornography and to work with them to prosecute porno outlets (nude dancing, peep show outlets, "adult" book stores, etc.) that profit from the vulnerabilities of men, women and children.
The AFA of CO will also network and mobilize citizens to boycott businesses and corporations that merchandise or promote pornography, obscenity and indecency.
Education - the effective
education of the general public to promote the biblical ethic of decency through
a coordinated effort.
Organizational Development
- the development and coordination of pro-decency people to work cohesively
to protect men, women and children from the insidious impact of the pornography/entertainment
industry and any other groups, organizations or associations that are at work
to erode traditional family values.
Media Monitoring -
the dissemination of information challenging interested citizens to monitor
the media (TV, movies, radio, etc.) in terms of obscenity and indecency with
the goal of writing corporate sponsors and/or boycotting those who refuse
to comply.
Law Enforcement - the
encouragement and support of county prosecutors and law enforcement to investigate
and prosecute state obscenity laws.
Financial - the maintenance
and improvement of a comprehensive financial system which will enable the
AFA of CO to identify and meet its financial needs both present and future.
Legislative - the defense
and initiation of pro-decency legislation and the coordination of efforts
to oppose anti-decency legislation on national, state and local levels within
the parameters of a (501-c-3) non-profit organization guidelines.
